The first of aviation started on kites. The first kite was made in China and that started man’s obsession with flight. In the Renaissance men started drawing elaborate diagrams of flying suits and other insane flight machines. Most notable of these men was Leonardo Da Vinci the famous painter and inventor. He even attempted to make an early helicopter but now scientist know that his design was not physically or scientifically possible.
In the eighteenth century ballooning became huge in Europe. Some early non-steerable balloons were even used in the civil war by the Union army.
In 1884 massive steerable blimps called airships took flight amazing the world. Although this aircraft was short lived due to it being extremely fragile.
The Wright brothers were the first successful people to build and fly an airplane. In 1902 the plane took flight traveling 120 feet in 12 seconds.
The first rocket launched into space was in 1944. It was a German test flight and reached an altitude of 189 km. It was a breakthrough for all of mankind. It also started a intense rivalry between the United States of America and Russia
